Just got myself a new surround sound system (Sony HT IS100).. Had it about a week now and I’m really impressed with the build and sound quality. The system has a large ammount of digital inputs including 1 coaxial, 3 HDMI and 3 optical inputs so I now have my xbox 360, ps3 and pc all hooked up to 5.1!!

Here is a pre release review that I found. Sony Japan is rolling out a new home theater-in-a-box system with cube-shaped speakers. As tiny as golf balls, each satellite measures just 1.7 inches on each side and providesno less than 45W, in addition to a 200W subwoofer. The HT-IS100 supports Dolby Digital/Dolby Pro Logic II/DTS and includes 3x HDMI ports, AM/FM tuner, S-Master audio system as well as the Sony’s Digital Cinema Auto Calibration (DCAC).

It seems that the BBC’s version of iPlayer for S60 has gone live, download it here. It has been implemented as a web runtime widget that kicks off streaming in RealPlayer. And it’s also, naturally, a bit fussy about which devices it installs on. It seems happy with the N78, N95 and N96, obviously, other success stories welcome.

The iPlayer application / widget opens a mobile version of the main iPlayer site. A number of shows are featured on the front page or you can browse for shows via channel or category. There’s also a search function for tracking down shows by name.

Please note to enable Iplayer to work on the Samsung I8510 you will have to follow the steps below.

To work on handsets other than the n95, n96, n78:

Download the iplayer.wgz file. Rename it so it’s called iplayer.zip (you might have to get Windows to show you filename extensions). Or, just open the .wgz file in WinZip or another archiver.

Extract all the files, in their folders, so you have a top level folder called iplayer, with a subfolder called iplayer, then in that, folders called css, img, js and some other files.

Open the file in the js folder that’s called app-min.js - you can open in NotePad, don’t use a word processor, and make sure word wrap is off in notepad.

Search for the text “n95″ until you find the text: (n95|n96|n78)
After the “n78″ add another vertical bar (above the \ key on a keyboard, next to the left shift key), then enter i8510 so the text now looks this (n95|n96|n78|i8510)

Save the file. Re-zip the top “iplayer” folder so you have iplayer.zip again (prob delete old archive 1st). Don’t use Windows built in zipper (right click folder, send to zip archive) - unsurprisingly it doesn’t zip properly and the file won’t install. Use winzip, or I used jzip from http://www.jzip.com

rename the archive to iplayer.wgz and add the file on to your i8510 somewhere.. You can then locate the file via your phone and install the widget.

P.S don’t forget to set your default access point on Realplayer to your local wifi connection.

Samsung have finally managed to roll out a really top-notch phone that trumps literally every other handset we have ever seen as far as its feature pack goes. Curiously, when designing products like this, phone makers usually have their own name and prestige in mind rather than market prospects. That’s why the i8510 is actually a quite painful poke at Nokia, who gave birth to this very segment a while back with their record-breaking N95 and are now looking at Samsung taking it away from them.”

Samsung has now launched, in beta, its new developer website, Samsung Mobile Innovator, which aims to help software developers create applications for Samsung S60 phones. The site provides technical and marketing support as well as a number of developer tools. An early highlight is the provision of an API to access the touchwheel of the i450 phone and similar custom APIs, for other Samsung devices, are on the way.

Sebastian Vettel became the youngest winner in Formula 1 history at Monza on Sunday with a wet-weather masterclass worthy of a seasoned champion.

The 21-year-old German dominated the race from lights to flag, leading away from his first ever pole, barely putting a wheel wrong in the treacherous conditions and beating McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen fair and square.

In the process he brought a maiden victory for one of Formula 1’s smallest teams, the Red Bull-owned Scuderia Toro Rosso – which has its origins in perennial backmarkers Minardi.

I have now booked my vxr in to have a Remus exhaust system fitted on the 29th of september. I will post some pictures/videos as soon as its fitted!

Know your mobile have given the Samsung i8510 Innov8 an impressive 4.5 out of 5 rating. Their only negatives were the fact the phone is quite large and the optical joystick was over sensitive. Otherwise they commented that the 8 mega pixel camera was comparable to a standalone compact camera.

For starters, there’s an eight-megapixel camera. This is controlled by a switch on the top, like on the LG Viewty. You can toggle between camera, video camera and gallery really quickly. It’s not just the resolution of the camera that beats the likes of Sony Ericsson (its 8-megapixel snapper is due out in September too) and Nokia (rumours suggest a December launch of a higher resolution device), but the capabilities the snapper has are comparable to a standalone compact camera
